Published on Sunday, November 22, 2009 by

Channeling:

Ancient China’s flood and how the Emperor solved it.
Identify your dry spots that you need some emotions (e.g., you are angry at work, so that motivate you to improve yourself, or find another job)
Build the channels before the flood comes
Channel your negative emotions to serve your positive goals

Examples:

  • Channeling sadness to getting closer to Allah: The Prophet (SAW) after being rejected.
  • Channeling need to humbling oneself to Allah and making Dua.
  • Channeling anger to sadness

Infrastructures that you need:

  • Dua
  • Wisdom: Lessons learned
  • Gratefulness
  • Patience
  • Drive: Failure is the mother of success
  • Humor
  • Reflections (e.g., poet get inspirations from emotional stimulus)

“Good poetry is “the spontaneous overflow of feelings” – William Wordsworth

Yu The Great

Here is another related post about self-control

Suppression effects explain much about counter-productive effect that we should avoid and abstain from and channeling method is the best way to put thing in its place. May be more ideas should be generated to provide clear way of excising the emotion in its right place. For instance, using anger in sports by manager to discipline players in a game. any other ideas, for joy, sad, etc..
