Weekly Sharing

Published on Thursday, November 19, 2009 by

assalam alaikum,

Every week you need to share with the participants some news, article, video, … related to the program and things that we discussed.

Here is how it works.

You post the link or text and write a few lines commentary or reflections (can be analysis, or personal experience, etc.)

taking care of multiple kids under age 5 can be very challenging sometimes. Every time I am feeling like getting very mad at my kids, I quickly try to expand my time and space; reminding myself that they are just kids who like to do and try every thing possible and my anger will never be justified because it is not because of Allaah.

I feel so impress on how it works in a very short time to connect myself with other brothers at my uni. Previously, i feel not enough of what i did as it seems that my effort in joining kinship’ with some brothers here was likely not to be deeply in the heart as Prophet s.a.w. said that we must love our brothers as we love our ownselves. Alhamdulillah by using this CASIC everything went smoothly and well. jzzk khayr.

As I missed last week’s homework, I will post it here… I was reflecting on a seminar I attended this weekend about how we should deal with the loss of a child. My sister lost her one day old child (who was a twin) a year ago. She has a surviving twin, who is still in critical situation, but is improving day by day hamdellah. My sister doesn’t want to open the subject of her lost child and I think this is not healthy. I forwarded her a recording of the seminar and she hasn’t commented. The main objective of that seminar was to enlighten people that every child who dies before hitting puberty will save their parents from hell fire. Therefore, it is a blessing from Allah (SWT) if you lose a child. Prophet Mohammed (SAWS) lost most, if not all, of his children during his lifetime, therefore such parents are in good company. I only wish I could discuss this issue with my sister, without hurting her or opening up old wounds… Any suggstions? By the way, if anyone is interested in receiving a copy of the recording, I will send it to the Living Halal email to be posted on the website as a link. Salam alaikum.

This week, I applied the CASIC approach to a personal problem I had. First, I made duas for Allah (SWT) to help me out with guiding me and giving me patience. I was very angry and did not want to react in the wrong way and regret later. So, I distanced myself from the problem by avoiding my husband for 2 days. I tried to think objectively about the heated argument we had and decided that we were both to blame, although his temper was very bad and he said very hurtful things to me. I took it all in and decided to try to smooth things out. In fact, he must have been thinking the same thing because that evening, he asked me if I would like him to prepare me a meal (this happens maybe once in a blue moon). So, I agreed and I offered to make dessert, which he accepted. We were still upset with each other, but not as much as before. The next day, I prepared him his favorite dish for dinner and we talked things out in a friendly manner. Neither of us apologized, but in a way we knew we wanted to end this argument. We talked about different options we had and the problem was solved. The fact that we did not react during the heat of the moment meant that Allah (SWT) saved our marriage. Alhamdullah. I am so grateful that I was able to apply the CASIC module to my personal life and find instant solution. Ofcourse, I think the fact that I prayed and made lots of duas helped me a lot too!
